Strawberry Day 2024

10-01-2024

The strawberry sector kicked off the year in style with the annual Strawberry Day at the Brabanthallen. With nearly 800 participants, the event was a day full of fascinating presentations and networking opportunities.

Since 2004, Delphy, ZLTO and Glastuinbouw Nederland have successfully organised Strawberry Day, for and by the strawberry sector, with a special focus on primary strawberry growers/plant breeders and together with exhibitors, speakers and participants.

We were invited to kick off this Strawberry Day as guest speakers.
We presented the outcome of our 2016 strawberry sustainability dream. Namely, can we grow strawberries year-round, with virtually no gas, chemicals, a closed water cycle, no cooled plants, and 30 kg per metre?
The answer is yes! Are we there yet? No, the basics work, but we (fortunately) still have many areas for further development in terms of variety selection, production and quality.

The strawberry sector is highly innovative. Until now, strawberry varieties have been bred using cuttings. Now, Limgroep, in collaboration with our company and those of Gipmans Young Plants, Van den Elzen Plants, FruitMasters and Delphy, has found a way to breed strawberries from seed. This sustainable breeding method ensures that a strawberry plant can grow from seed to strawberry plant within 16 weeks! With cuttings, this process takes three years.

Demo Project Plant Material and Field Trip Delphy

23-10-2025

On 9 January 2026, Van der Avoird Trayplant will host an organised excursion to explain aspects of the European PlantGoed project. This day will be combined with a Delphy field trip, during which Van der Avoird Trayplant's various production facilities and cultivation techniques will be presented.

The European PlantGoed project is an Interreg project (Flanders–Netherlands) that focuses on the development of innovative and sustainable solutions for the year-round production of soft fruits, such as strawberries and raspberries. The central focus is on improving and refining tailor-made plant propagation techniques. The project aims to increase efficiency and sustainability within the soft fruit sector through system innovation, with a strong focus on local and regional cooperation between research, growers and other chain partners.

NED Customer evening

23-10-2025

On Thursday 23 October, NED Personeel and v.d. Avoird Trayplant jointly organised a knowledge event on the theme of “The new temporary employment” from 1 January 2026.

The rules in the temporary employment sector will be significantly tightened from 2026 onwards. Equal terms of employment, the new pension scheme, the shortened phase system, the Flexible Workers (Greater Security) Act and the WTTA admission requirement. Naturally, this will also have consequences for Trayplant. What consequences? In any case, we are now well prepared. Partly thanks to the knowledge of NED Personeel.
